The inspiration behind Wednesdays at One
Sandra tells us about how her husband of 25 years came to her one day to tell her that someone had been stalking them. He had a patient that knew all kinds of specific information about them. She tells Michelle that it was a nightmare that went on for 3 or 4 years where they were stalked relentlessly. Sandra took this and started to think what if a psychiatrist who is used to being in control and in charge was suddenly in this situation where this woman knew all these things about him and makes him feel really terrified? Then add to this that he’s done something horrible in his past, and from this the idea for her novel was born.
Sandra’s journey to become an author
How Sandra used writing to search for meaning and connection
Sandra talks to Michelle about how she lost her mum in 2013 and was having a real struggle with it. She wanted to tell a story about searching for her mother as a middle-aged woman who had lost a mother that she never felt connected to. At the same time, she was on a real-life treasure hunt, and so ended up publishing her first novel about the actual search for gold and treasure, as well as the metaphorical search for meaning and connection with her mother.
