Host of the top 50 career podcast, Whiskey & Work Podcast, Kelsey Murphy is a life and business coach who has worked with Fortune 100 companies like Twitter and Facebook. She’s been mentioned in Forbes and left a cushy advertising career working with Elizabeth Arden and Nintendo to pursue her passion in working with other people. Kelsey is not only someone I consider a mentor, but also a dear friend and one of the most incredible humans I know. She’s sharing her journey from corporate career to becoming a life and business coach who works with Marie Forleo, Kelly Leveque (you know, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Garner’s nutritionist!), and many more while still being an awesome and present mom to her daughter, soon to be two daughters. I love how open and honest Kelsey was and how you are going to walk away with some amazing tips and lessons we’ve both learned on our journeys to having online businesses.

Kelsey’s Journey To Becoming A Life & Business Coach
Kelsey was like many of us…she had a corporate advertising career, was making good money, but was not enjoying it. She was good at what she did, but found herself wondering what more there was out there. She wanted to find the career that would light her up and be her passion. Kelsey discovered coaching, but didn’t dive in head first. Instead, she traveled the world to attend classes and conferences, meet people and interviewed over 60 business and life coaches to discover how they ran their businesses, what their lives looked like and how she could apply some of this knowledge to her own life.
Designing Your Business Around Your Life
When thinking about the career Kelsey wanted to have, she also thought about the lifestyle she wanted to live. Kelsey is one who works hard, but also ensures she spends quality time with her husband and daughter. She works 3 days a week and has clients who are inspiring and have grown their businesses into huge accomplishments. Kelsey reminds us of the importance in recognizing what you want your life to look like and then building your business to fit that life. It might not happen overnight and it will take work, but it will be worth it.
Reaching Out To People You Admire
Kelsey shares one of my favorite stories of how she met Marie Forleo, author of Everything Is Figureoutable, host of MarieTV, and creator of B-School. Kelsey was persistent in her follow up with Marie but what made her stand out from everyone else was her consistency in the content she created for the rest of the world. We chat about how you shouldn’t be afraid to reach out to people that you have a connection with and to build your tribe, how masterminds can create the most deep and meaningful relationships, and how you just need to put yourself out there. It’s important to find your people because that is how you will grow as a person and in business.
Are you creating your business around the lifestyle you want to live?
