Career and Business Strategist, Michelle Terpstra and I met last year in a mastermind and quickly learned we had more in common than just our names. We’d both had corporate careers, graduated from UCSB, had small kids and a love for yoga…well, she teaches it and I admire it. Since the time we met, Michelle has left her 9-5 and is full-time with her business. Not only that, but she’s working on moving across the country to where her husband has been for almost a year working in a new job and they are about to renovate a house. Michelle’s sharing how she’s helping entrepreneurs and business owners strategize their offerings along with her upcoming launch of a strategy bootcamp. Warning…we like to get off track at some points in our conversation and go into mom chat, but we bring it back to business. You’re going to hear her tips on studying your competition and even advice she’s given me on my business.
Buckle up friends, this is a fun and fast convo between the two Michelles! Let’s get ready to strategize!

How Michelle Launched A Side Hustle While Working A Corporate 9-5
Michelle has worked with Fortune 500 companies and while working in her latest position, she realized that she wasn’t feeling fulfilled. She wanted more and she wanted to speak and teach others and not just sell. Instead of looking for an opportunity, Michelle created one by launching a Toastmasters group for her area and leading it. Through speaking to others, she was able to hone in on the fact that she loves to help guide and strategize people when it comes to their career and businesses which is how she started a side hustle in consulting.
Why It’s Important To Research Your Competition & Their Pricing
One of Michelle’s biggest tips for business owners is to research your competition and to pay attention to how they price their services. Don’t leave it at that though…reflect on your offering and pricing and focus on the value you bring. Once you are comfortable with your pricing and understand your value, then you are going to find a new confidence in yourself, your business and in selling.
Being The Example You Want For Your Children
Michelle has a 3 year old and 7 year old and shares the importance to her of being an example for both of her children. For her daughter, she wants to be the example that you can be a woman who works, is a mom and a wife and does a good job at all of it. Michelle also shares her tips on how she finds time for herself and that her kids understand the importance of her work but also can see and appreciate the time she spends with them and focuses on them.
