When you’re writing a book and working towards getting it published, there is a laundry list of things that you need to think of. In order to pitch your book proposal or manuscript to an agent and publisher, you need more than the book itself! You need a platform with followers to show that you’re already a trusted source in your field, to show that people will buy your book because they’re already consuming your content.
But where do you begin?
I’ve created some simple tips for authors (and really everyone!) to utilize. You can start implementing these growth hacks to help increase your audience reach and ultimately grow your platforms.
Instagram
You should select and use hashtags that have been used by other accounts less than 1 million times. Your posts won’t be seen or have nearly the reach you’d like when you use hashtags that everyone else has already used. You can find out how many times a hashtag has been utilized by using the search button within the app, typing the word you want to use, hit search and then select “hashtags”.
On All Platforms
Be consistent. Post and tweet regularly. Posting one a month or even just once a week isn’t going to build the credibility you are looking for. Make an effort to post at least 2-3 times a week.
Sharing Is Caring
Share! Don’t be afraid to share great content of others in your IG stories and Twitter feeds. Add what you think is great about the content, praise the poster!
Podcast Interviews
Do podcast interviews early! You do NOT need to wait until your book is published. Share your knowledge NOW! By having a list of podcast interviews already under your belt, you’re laying the foundation for being the authority behind why you’re the right person to write the book. You’re also building an audience of potential book buyers!
Email List
Grow your email list with a freebie. Create a list of tips that you can offer people. You can mention this in podcast interviews so you have a CTA (call to action) for listeners. It’s a great way to build not only your audience but to engage with them through the emails you send.
Don’t wait until your book is launching to focus on growing your audience! It’s important to gain trust and show the world that you are an expert in your field BEFORE your book comes out!
