Audacity…do you have enough of it?

When I became a mom, I became someone else. I am someone who has always been vocal and stood up for what I felt was right, but motherhood amped that up. It also brought to light new issues I am passionate about.

As my kids started school, I discovered the incredible Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, author FIGHT LIKE A MOTHER and the upcoming book, FIRED UP, and organizer of White Women For Harris.

Shannon has the ultimate audacity. She speaks up, she speaks out and she fiercely protects those she loves. She’s a mom.

Tonight, thanks to Shana McLean Moore, Shannon came to San Jose and I got to hug her, thank her and listen to her speak in person. A community of women came together and we left fired up!

I didn’t raise my hand when she asked who is considering running for office, but if I’m honest, it’s been a thought on my mind for a while now. We shall see…

I want to be audacious AF. I want to help other women be audacious and for us to come together to make a difference and stand up for others and ourselves.

Trust is the assured reliance on the ability, character, strength and truth of someone or something.

Trust is lacking in our country right now and especially in the media.

When I was asked to present at PRxNE I had no idea that I would be incorporating how podcasts played a role in the Presidential election.

No, I didn't talk politics! I did talk facts, numbers, podcast listeners and how this is going to be the trend for more politicians, business leaders, thought leaders and more. A trend I've been preaching about for 5 years now!

Podcast interviews allow listeners to hear your story in your words. You build trust by sharing your story and knowledge with others in a casual setting...a conversation with another person.

I've included some of the most recent stats I gathered for my presentation...

✔ People trust podcasts.
✔ Podcast hosts influence listeners, more so than the news.
✔ Podcasts introduce new topics and issues to listeners and have a greater impact on how people think about these issues.

The median age of podcast listeners is much younger than those watching cable news, primetime TV, reading newspapers and more.

The average viewership from 3 major news channels is less than half the average listeners for an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience or Call Her Daddy.

Now, I know that the majority of us won't be guests on either of those two podcasts, BUT I can tell you that the number of podcast listeners my clients have reached in 2024 as of this week is 6.56M. That's an average of over 250K listeners per client!

A little food for thought as you head into the weekend! If you're looking to build trust with people...turn to podcasts!

Today, 64 years ago, Ruby Bridges was the first African American child to attend an all-white school in Louisiana.

Last year, I read a book to my my daughter and her Girl Scout troop about Ruby and we talked about the courage and bravery she showed. These incredible girls had questions around why anyone would want segregated schools in the first place. We talked about how we need to stand up for others and use our voices.

This morning, as I was reminded of Ruby's courage, I texted my daughter (I'm on a plane) and told her that today was the 64 year anniversary of the day Ruby went to school. I texted my husband and told him to remind both of our kids of today because Ruby's story needs to continue being told.

I'm someone who believes in "signs" per se and I decided I was going to finish reading GONE MISSING by @azulterronez and @steve.vannoy on my flight. I'm not one to give spoilers of books away BUT I broke down in tears as I read the end of their book and how Ruby Bridges plays a part in it...ending with today, 64 years ago.

My heart breaks looking at this photo of a child who has to be escorted to school, for the hatred and bigotry that she endured and that many continue to endure today.

I woke up this morning feeling tired and frustrated with all that has happened in the past week and then I think of Ruby Bridges as a child, experienced so much. We have to keep going, speaking up and doing the work.

As Gov Walz said...we can sleep when we're dead.

Thank you Ruby for your courage and strength.

Grief is something that never goes away. It simply changes over time.

I've been grieving the loss of my father for 36 years. He passed away on October 30, 1988. I was 7 years old and my brother was not yet 5.

November is Children’s Grief Awareness Month and I was honored to be interviewed by Jenny Lisk on the Widowed Parent Podcast about losing my father, the impact it has had on me and ways I feel we can better help children who lose a parent.

I don't often talk about losing my father, but I did mention it in my book because it's part of my story and why I am the person I am today.

Jenny had bought my book to help her professionally to get on podcasts but in reading my story, she reached out to interview me.

The more we share of ourselves and our journeys, the more we can connect with others.

There is truly nothing better in life than when you connect with someone and become friends. Last year, like many of you, I read THE LAST LOVE NOTE and fell in love with Emma Grey's writing. Then, I not only interviewed Emma but also got to meet her in person and I fell harder! ⁠

Emma is back on the podcast talking about her new novel, PICTURES OF YOU and it is amazing! It's out today (yes, I've already devoured it) and even texted Emma as I was reading, crying on one page and messaging her what the heck just happened?! ⁠

As always, we aren't just talking about the book...Emma shares how she has incorporated her personal experiences into her writing and also gives us a look at how she enlisted the help of friends and family to ensure details in her book were accurate...absolute behind the scenes deets! We also talk about rejection and how if we aren't being rejected at least 100 times a year, then we aren't doing it right! This is a great lesson!⁠

Today we celebrate and thank our veterans. In our

Today we celebrate and thank our veterans. In our house, we strive to celebrate them every day because they fought so hard for us and continue to do so.

We'll be driving our 1945 Jeep in the Veteran's Day parade in downtown San Jose (rain or shine!) with @spiritof45bayarea

My grandfather was a 3 star admiral in the Navy, my uncle was the navigator on the Nautilus as it went to the North Pole for the first time and was roommates with President Jimmy Carter (I'm so blessed to have written to President Carter and he wrote me back about this!), my father served in the Army during the Korean war. I have a cousin who flew helicopters in the Air Force and another cousin who is a Field Artillery officer in the Army.

My husband's father served in the 494th Field Artillery Battalion with the 12th Armored Division in WWII. His uncle on his mom's side also served in WWII.

Every month we gather for donuts with our friends who also fought in WWII with his dad. Unfortunately, we lost Marvin last year. This year we also celebrated Mario who served with Ted's dad and turned 103 (last photo)!

We are a very proud military family and are so grateful everyday for those who serve our country to protect our freedoms and rights.
