Everyday I wake up excited to do the work I do. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I love what I do and I love who I get to work with. It's the truth.⁠
⁠
I am and always have been a people person. I love meeting new people, getting to know stories about others, connecting people to one another. It's the reason behind why I love podcasts and storytelling. ⁠
⁠
This year I've gotten to work with The Hofffmans (Steve and Mary Jo) on their incredible book launches. I was blown away that they each had books coming out just about a month apart...and then I got to meet them and they are two people I immediately wanted to...and now get to...call friends. ⁠
⁠
The work I do involves a lot of trust. Trust that those who choose to work with me will share themselves with me. Trust in me to share their stories in the right way and with the right people. ⁠
⁠
I received an email from Steve this week with words that brought me to tears. I'm so grateful that this is how he has felt about our working relationship and even more grateful to have made lifelong friends in The Hoffmans. Our families know each other, bread has been broken and wine has been shared...⁠

This is why I love what I do.⁠

I was on a podcast interview and my phone was in a

I was on a podcast interview and my phone was in airplane mode. When I wrapped up and turned my phone back on, the first thing I saw was an alert that there was a school shooting at Apalachee High School.

My first thought was of those parents who are also at work and see this alert on their phones or from their own children who were running for their lives.

My children have monthly active shooter drills. Why?

Because too many Americans put their gun rights above the rights of our children to live and go to school.

Today I got to pick my children up from school. There are parents of two high schoolers who did not....today. There are many other parents who never again get drop off or pickup from school because they lost their child in a school shooting.

Common sense gun laws MUST be enacted. For those who think that means their 2nd Amendment rights are being taken from them...first, shut up. Second, it's not about taking your guns. It's about enacting safe storage, background checks, banning assault rifles that aren't necessary anyway, red flag laws...it's about protecting our children.

This is about a child being able to go to school and not fearing IF they'll come home. Every child deserves that RIGHT.

In all of this, my children and yours come first. There's no debating this fact with me.

I read Liz Alterman's memoir, SAD SACKED, about being laid off within 6 weeks of her husband and how they had to navigate the new normal of both being home, talking to their kids about what was going on and much more. ⁠

A lot of what Liz wrote about felt like deja vu for me because we've had a total of 3 layoffs over 17 years of partnership. Losing a job is one of the most stressful times in someone's life, let alone having two of you losing a job...that's beyond stressful! That will cause panic!⁠

Liz and I chat about our experiences and what it was also like to take that experience and write a book for the world to read about it! ⁠
⁠
The bright side in all of this is that we both learned that losing our corporate jobs opened up new doors for both of us. I couldn't be happier with what I do now! ⁠

Wearing my Vote shirt and headed to Starbucks this morning to get my first PSL of the season.

There were three older white men sitting outside and one said, “Vote. Ok, for who?”

“Kamala.”

All three nodded and one said “yes, of course, who else?!”

I’m smiling ear to ear. I keep reading about others having such an experience when wearing a Harris Walz shirt and they bring me hope. To experience it is pure joy.

Sparking conversations, being kind, smiling…this is what we need more of!
