Self-care is something we all need to work on but when you become a parent, self-care seems to take a backseat. Self-care is about finding time to do something that fills your soul and replenishes your energy. Self-care as a mother or father can come in many forms and even though time is limited in between kid activities, cooking, cleaning, working and more, it’s up to each of us to make a more conscious effort to do more for ourselves so that we can in turn take care of our kids and live fuller lives.
Self-care is about filling your soul!
What we’re talking about
– Your Identity After Parenthood
– Self-Care
– Finding Time
Re-Discovering Yourself As A Parent
It is so easy to lose identity as a person when you become a parent. You are engulfed in doing so much for your child from bathing to feeding to teaching and much more that little time is left in the day to care for yourself. You do so much for someone else that you forget to do things for yourself. You don’t have enough time to do things or activities that are truly just for you.
What Is Self-Care?
Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Self-care refuels us, rather than takes from us. It’s something that fills our soul and cup so that we in turn can fill the soul of the people we care for. Self-care can be anything from getting your nails done to going for a walk to enjoying a glass of wine and meaningful conversation.
Scheduling Time For Self-Care
When you are planning out your week with doctor appointments and sports activities and work, add self-care to your schedule. Write down when you will take just 15 minutes to do something for yourself. Schedule time to literally turn off the tv and enjoy a conversation with your spouse or block off time to actually work out. Remember that if it’s not written down, then it’s not going to happen.
Self-care is the key to a balanced life.
