I often get asked about self-promotion and the discomfort around it. For some, promoting themselves is second nature, but for many people, placing themselves in the spotlight is uncomfortable.⁠

Podcast interviews are definitely a "form" of self-promotion, but they don't have to feel that way and they should NEVER appear that way! ⁠
⁠
Podcast interviews are a way to share your story, your knowledge and your expertise with others. It's allowing others to get to know you before they ever meet you.⁠
⁠
If your interviews come off as self-promotion, then you're doing them wrong. Plain and simple. ⁠
⁠
There is and should be promotion of the interviews themselves (we'll talk about that next week!) but the actual interview should be about you sharing of yourself. ⁠

Today is about those who lost their lives fighting for our freedom.

Many of us are enjoying an extra day off, bbqs, time with others. But don’t forget to make time to recognize what Memorial Day is about.

On Saturday, we placed flags on veteran gravesites. Last night, we watched the PBS special and listened to stories of families who lost loved ones in wars. Today we are attending the Memorial Day Services at Oak Hill Cemetery.

There’s plenty of time for bbqs, so be sure to take some time to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice many have made for us.

Trauma…

This is a word that I thought had a definition reserved for those who had experienced something major…my childhood was what I thought “normal” life was.

Until I met my therapist who corrected me.

Dr, MaryCatherine (MC) McDonald is a research professor and life coach who specializes in the psychology and philosophy of trauma. MC’s mission is to redefine what trauma truly is…because it’s much more than what medical professionals have been allowed to diagnose.

MC is pure brilliance and her work amazes me. Her new book, Unbroken: The Trauma Response Is Never Wrong gives readers insight as to various forms of trauma exist and how our bodies know what to do with trauma inherently.

You’ll hear how we both light up when we got to talk about working with various people…those who want and deserve a second chance, veterans who have returned home and more.

Listen to my convo with MC because she’s not only knowledgeable but encompasses what being a good human is.

If you’ve experienced trauma, and chances are you have, know that you’re not alone and whatever you did to survive was the right thing.

Let this be your reminder to slow down. ⁠

I haven't posted in almost a week and I'm ok with that (normally this would stress me out). My to do list has been a mile long with client work (includes A LOT of reading right now), wrapping up school activities for the year, planning summer activities, birthday parties to go to, meal planning...all.the.things.⁠
⁠
My calendar and list are very full right now and in all honesty, are making me a bit anxious. Yet, it was just a year ago this week that I was having my coffee on Necker Island with nowhere else I needed to be. No worries of checking things off a list.⁠
⁠
It feels like it was ages ago, not just a year. ⁠
⁠
While I was on Necker Island, I had an overwhelming sense of calm and grace. I wanted to take that home with me. Of course being on an island is much different from being back at home with responsibilities, but my intention was to be as much of the person I was on the island while at home. ⁠
⁠
I've worked hard the past 10 months to slow down and will continue to work towards that goal. There are seasons in life where we can't slow down as much as we'd like, but we must remember to pause and soak in all that is around us...and be grateful. ⁠
⁠
As I head out to the first of two birthday parties today and look at maximizing my time out of the house by running errands, I am also looking at how I can slow down this week. For me, that means that if I get a lot done on one day, then I can look forward to the pause the next day.⁠
⁠
