What exactly is a garden historian?
Jane tells us about the fascinating profession of her main character, Maud. As a garden historian, her job is to find sites where gardens once existed and work alongside archaeologists to look at the soil and try to identify what grew there in the past. This is a much more common profession, and is more well known, In the UK, however we were so interested to find out about it and it is such a unique job to appear in her novel.

What Jane’s writing process looks like
We love hearing about an author’s unique and personal writing habits, processes, and rituals, and so Michelle asks Jane what hers are. She tells us about how her husband created a spreadsheet for her that she would use to log her time when writing every day that would automatically tally up the world count for her. She tells us how she would block out Friday mornings to write and before settling in, she would love to stand outside while her tea or coffee is brewing and observe the plants to see what has changed overnight. This gets her in the head space of observing, listening, looking, and not thinking so much so that she can focus on her writing.
